Yamaguchi was a colleague of Togusa. Both have worked in the main office of the police squad before Togusa moved to section 9. Meanwhile, Yamaguchi works in the Special Investigations Division at the Niihama Prefecture Police station, which was established specifically to investigate the case of the "Laughing Man."
